Missing children found just before dark

by Mari Muzzi

The two children who had wandered away from their family’s home last Thursday were found a few hours later, cold and wet but unharmed, according to a Sublette County Sheriff’s report.

The children, an 8-year-old boy and his 5-year-old sister, had walked away from their home in Bargerville around 5 p.m.

The Sublette County Sheriff’s Office led a coordinated search, which included Tip Top Search and Rescue, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Wyoming Game and Fish and the local EMS.

Brian Nesvik of Fish and Game found the boy walking along a two-track road near Stokes Crossing, about two miles from the children’s home. The boy had crossed Boulder Creek, but the water was too deep for his young sister. He led the search team to where he had left his younger sister, the sheriff’s report said.

“It was a collective effort,” said Sheriff Wayne “Bardy” Bardin. “All of the good people came together, so it didn’t take too long (to find the kids).”

Bardin said he was glad that the team found the children when they did. He said if they would have had to spend the night in the cold with wet clothing on, the outcome could have been much worse.
