Big Piney and Marbleton municipal elections held

by Julia Stuble

The towns of Big Piney and Marbleton held municipal elections on Tuesday, May 8, though results were not available at press time. However, for both elections, the candidates ran unopposed. In Marbleton, two four-year terms on the Town Council were open, as were two two year terms.

Incumbents Bob Beiermann and Sue Hoefer ran for the four-year terms, and incumbent Mike Hughes ran for a two-year term. Mack Bradley entered the race for the other two-year term. Bradley, who has never been seated on the Town Council before, runs a trailer park and an excavation business in Marbleton. He is “willing to listen to everyone’s ideas and be a part of a smooth-running council.”

“Growth is everywhere in Marbleton. I thought I would like to get on the council and help them out,” Bradley commented. Big Piney has the same terms open on the Council. Gloria Willoughby and Kevin Walton, both incumbents, ran for the two four-year terms.

Scott Scherbel put in for a two-year term. If elected, this would be Scherbel’s first experience in a public office, and he noted that he is running because, “I think everyone ought to take a turn in public service.” Scherbel, who works for Surveyor Scherbel Ltd., feels that he can bring “a lot of experience in land use matters” to the council. No one filed for the other two-year term, leaving it empty.
