County unemployment drops slightly

by Derek Farr

Sublette County’s April unemployment rate dropped two-tenths of 1 percent from March, according to a report by the Wyoming Department of Employment Research and Planning.

The report shows the March rate of 3.4 percent dipped to 3.2 percent in April.

While that number is low, it’s not the lowest. Albany County boasts a 2.6 percent unemployment rate.

According to the report, the county has gained 47 workers and 62 jobs since March.

April traditionally sees unemployment reductions as construction picks up. But compared to last year, the numbers have slumped. In April 2008, the county’s unemployment rate was 1.3 percent.

Surprisingly, the report shows 294 more jobs than a year ago, but it also shows 429 more laborers.

Regardless, the county’s unemployment rate eclipses the national average of 8.6 percent.
