MARION F. ESTES

Marion F. Estes, 89, passed away suddenly Wednesday morning April 30, 2008 at St. John’s Hospital in Jackson, Wyoming from consequences due to a stroke.

His wife and family were at his side. Marion was born August 6, 1918 in Knob Noster, Missouri to Forrest and Deborah Estes. He served his country in the United States Army Armored Calvary 101st Reconnaissance Squad during World War II in the European Theater and was awarded two bronze stars. After his service he married his sweetheart Myrla Maxine Thompson. They settled down and made their home in Monte Vista, Colorado. Together they have enjoyed the blessings of being married for 59 years.

Marion enjoyed being outdoors. He loved fly-fishing and he tied his own flies. He was an avid bird hunter and a great storyteller. He was also a member of the Monte Vista Volunteer Fire Department until his retirement several years ago.

He is survived by his wife Maxine of Pinedale; cousins Ruby Kanoy and Melvin Cunningham of Warrensburg, MO; nephews Kent (Cindy) Van of Cora, WY and Marion (Shirley) Telinde of Parker, CO; niece Karen (Ron) Hines of Cora, WY and several great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary Margaret Lounsbury and niece Jane Innes.

Funeral services were held Monday May 5th at 11 a.m. at Strohmayer’s Funeral Home in Monte Vista, CO. Interment followed in the Monte Vista Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Monte Vista Volunteer Fire Dept. c/o Strohmayer’s Funeral Home, 205 Broadway, Monte Vista, CO 81144.
