Punchers scheduled for national television

by Derek Farr

The Denver Broncos were given every opportunity to win their division in the past two weeks, but they squandered those chances with lackluster performances.

If the notion of watching another Bronco game is too daunting, here’s an incentive.

During half time, Bob Costas will introduce the Big Piney Punchers in a Toyota advertisement campaign.

The campaign, titled “The Line of Scrimmage,” is scheduled to air on Dec. 28 during halftime of the Sunday Night Football game between the Broncos and the San Diego Chargers. A second Puncher commercial will air on Jan. 3 during the first round of the playoffs.

In October, a full-blown film crew captured footage of the Punchers during the week of the Cokeville game.

For Puncher’s coach Cole Clifford it was his first time doing an interview on camera.

The ad campaign’s theme is “Guts” and it has featured seven other schools that epitomize the word. One school from Fort Bragg had players whose fathers were serving in Afghanistan and Iraq, while another was the Maryland School for the Deaf where both the cheer squad and the football team are deaf.

The commercial will document the Puncher’s gutsiness by highlighting the area’s cold temperatures and high altitude.

“They chose us for the extreme weather,” Clifford said. “Which we didn’t have that week.”

Relatively balmy weather notwithstanding, the two 45-second commercials will be a part of the next two National Football League (NFL) weekends.

The mini-documentaries will also join the other schools on youtube and www.lineofscrimmage.com.
