Chamber Members Elect Three To Board

by Trey Wilkinson

Chamber members elected three new members to the Sublette County Chamber of Commerce board of directors on Nov. 30, as Chamber members were given the opportunity to vote during office hours at the Visitor Center and that evening at the first annual Chamber Banquet.

In all, four people ran for three vacant seats. Dan Abernathy, Sandra Hinderliter and Michael Peters were elected to the board in what proved to be a “close” vote. Deborah Lederer finished with the fewest votes. “The voting was close,” Swift said. “We had a really good mix of candidates representing a very eclectic group of businesses in Sublette County.”

Abernathy is the owner of Rock Rabbit in Pinedale, Peters is the recreation coordinator for the Pinedale Aquatic Center and Hinderliter is the president of First American Title Co. and vice president of High Tech Carpet Cleaning.

“We loved seeing four great candidates eager to fill these positions,” Swift said. “These positions are all volunteer positions so to see that many (people) excited to serve on a board geared towards commerce and community is really extraordinary.”

The current board is made up of seven members: Robert Brito, Forrest Wakefield, James Helm, Kimberly Ervin, Abernathy, Hinderliter and Peters. Cally McKee, Natalie Wise and Sherrie Thomas were replaced on the board following the election. According to Swift, the positions on the board are staggered in such a way that elections are held every year even though board members can holdup to a three-year term.

The criterion for voting on board members includes being a current member or representing a company or organization that is a member of the Sublette County Chamber of Commerce. Swift said over 100 ballots were received, approximately one-third of memberships.

“We encourage businesses to vote or to designate their staff members that are voting on behalf of the business or organization,” Swift said. “Some choose not to vote for various reasons, but we would sure like to see that number go up.”

Swift is pleased with newly electedboard members.

“I think that all the new board members that I have had the chance to get to know are enthusiastic, mindful of the changes in Sublette County and how they can affect the business community and very interested in public service,” she said. “That is a relief because we are saying goodbye to some very instrumental board members, so I feel that these folks are more than up to the challenge of filling their shoes.”

“The Sublette County Chamber of Commerce looks forward to working with all the recently elected board members in 2008,” Swift added.
