Reporter’s Notes

Brands

Senator Gerald E. Geis and Representative Doug Samuelson, Cochairmen of the Wyoming Legislature’s Task Force on Brand Inspection have announced the task force will meet May 10 at 8:30 a.m. in room 302 of the State Capitol Building in Cheyenne. The purpose of this meeting is to begin interim work on the brand inspection and brand recording programs

Water

The Southern Nevada Water Authority has entered into an agreement to lease 2,001 acre-feet of Muddy River water a year for 20 years from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the tune of $7.2 million, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. That’s enough water to supply the demands of at least 4,000 Las Vegas households.

Rabies

Under new rules enacted by the Wyoming Livestock Board, unvaccinated pets that bite a human shall be euthanized. The rules also recommend unvaccinated pets that are potentially exposed to the rabies virus through contact with a wild animal shall be euthanized.

If a vaccinated animal bites a person, it shall be quarantined and observed for 10 days to make sure it does not develop signs suggestive of rabies. If a vaccinated animal is exposed to potentially rabid wildlife, it should likewise be quarantined and observed for 45 days.

For more information, contact the Wyoming Livestock Board at 307-777-7515, option 1.
