Obituaries

Frank S. Gecan

Frank S. Gecan, 82, of Rock Springs passed away on Friday, June 2, 2006, at his home. He a long-time resident of Rock Springs.

He was born on Sept. 4, 1923, in Red Lodge, Mont., the son of the late Ferdinand and Gazella Matkovich Gecan.

Mr. Gecan attended school in Red Lodge, Melcher, Iowa, and Rock Springs.

He married the former Jean Ecker in Rock Springs on Nov. 7, 1945, and she preceded him in death on April 8, 2004.

During World War II, he served as an army engineer in Germany and France.

Gecan was employed at FMC for 36 years and retired as a fire boss in 1984. He also worked for Union Pacific Coal Company as a miner for five years.

His interests included swimming, fishing, hunting and riding in God’s country.

He was a member of the First Congregational Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda McShane of Vancouver BC, Canada; twin sisters Mary Christiansen of Eden, Utah, and Anna Acker of Rock Springs; three grandchildren: Erron Mc Shane and wife Jen, Shea McShane and wife Maren of Germany and Brian McShane of Vancouver; and one great-granddaughter, Cierra McShane of Vancouver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and sister-in-law Fred and Francis Gecan and son-in-law Sean McShane.

Following cremation at the Vase White Mountain Crematory, a memorial service was conducted Wednesday, June 7, at the First Congregational Church in Rock Springs.
