Tourism board, chamber hire new personnel

by Bill Boender

The Sublette County Joint Tourism Promotion Board met in Marbleton on Thursday, May 12, with Tammy Babcock and Paula Shelton absent. Board Member Leanne Rellstab discussed the possibility of sharing information with similar boards across the state in order to learn what has and hasn't worked for them.

A resolution was passed to resolve legal issues of action taken at past meetings where there was a question about a quorum being present. Action pending regarding compliance with rules requiring minimum numbers of the board to be involved in tourism and to reduce the number of board members from nine to five was tabled. These matters have been referred to the Sublette County Attorney, who has not yet responded.

A lease arrangement with the Sublette County Chamber of Commerce is being negotiated by committees from each board and should be resolved by the next meeting. The present agreement will be continued through May.

The new visitor center will have a budget available for presentation to the Sublette County Commissioners at an upcoming meeting in the hope that construction could begin in the spring of 2006.

A contract for services with Marketing Director Mindi Crabb was discussed and approved for a one-year term beginning May 1. Crabb will prepare a new marketing plan for the board by the next meeting, which is scheduled for June 14 at the Pinedale Library. This will be a grant hearing meeting and all organizations needing funding should obtain forms and instructions from the director so that they can be reviewed prior to the meeting date and can be scheduled on the agenda.

A refreshing air of cooperation and agreement was evident at this meeting, perhaps portending good things to come in the future.
