Christy Carlson Sykes

Christy Carlson Sykes, 16, of Rock Springs passed away on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2005 at the Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, where she had been a patient for the past two weeks. A long-time resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Jacksonport, Ark., Christy died following a brief illness.

She was born on July 31, 1989, in Newport, Ark., the daughter of Charles Millard and Dana Darlene Carlson Sykes.

Christy attended schools in Rock Springs and was a junior at Rock Springs High School. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Rock Springs.

Her interests included visiting neighbors and friends. She enjoyed visits with her grandfather and step-grandmother in Pinedale, and also visiting with her family in Washington State.

Christy loved singing and was in the Rock Springs High School Choir. She loved animals and children; she had two rabbits, three guinea pigs, a border collie named Skippy and two other dogs, Snickers and Ginger. She loved fishing, hunting, camping, babysitting and spending time with her family and friends. Christy collected Care Bears. She had many friends who were very special to her and she enjoyed life and was always happy. The smile never left her face.

Survivors include her parents, Charles Millard Sykes and Dana Darlene Carlson Sykes of Rock Springs; her brother, Jeremy Carlson Sykes of Rock Springs; her maternal grandparents, Dan Carlson and wife Pam of Pinedale; aunts and uncles Jim Sykes and wife Ruth of Poulsbo, Wash., Tom Wilson and wife Tammy of Olympia, Wash. and Debra Radosevich and husband Chuck of Rock Springs; cousins Diane and Arron Knoll, Cindy and Andy Colson, Sarah and Tim Zacharias, Laura Wilson, Jared Radosevich and Jenna Radosevich.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Lola Carlson; her grandparents James and Gene Sykes and her great-grandparents.

Following cremation at Lake Hills Crematory in Sandy, Utah, a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at the First Congregational Church in Rock Springs. Reverend Jean Wade will conduct the services. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations in Christy’s memory be made to Primary Children’s Hospital, 100 North Medical Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84113 or Rock Springs Humane Society, 310 Yellowstone Road, Rock Springs, Wyo., 82901.
