Mary Belle Petersen Shenefelt

Mary Belle Petersen Shenefelt had a wonderful life; she was born May 31, 1911, to Walter and Edna (Crews) Peterson. Mary Belle was greatly loved by all of her family and by all who knew her. Mary Belle’s favorite pasttime was working in her garden. She and her sister Kate had the most beautiful flower garden you were ever to set eyes on.

Mary Belle married the love of her life, Wayland, in 1929. They were married for 34 blissful years. They had one beautiful daughter together, Betty Lou, who was born May 29, 1931. They were both oh-so-proud of her.

Mary Belle was a homemaker and Wayland was a plumber. Wayland then died in 1963 and it almost broke Mary Belle’s heart, but somehow she managed to carry on. Her loving sister Kate moved in to help Mary Belle carry on the household duties.

Mary Belle then started her career outside of the home and worked for East Junior High as a cook in the kitchen. This made her grandchildren very happy as all five of them attended East Junior High during her employment there. They were able to visit with their Grandma each and every day at lunch time.

Mary Belle later went on to make custom draperies with her sister Kate assisting in the cutting and measuring. Mary Belle then retired and continued with her gardening until she became ill.

Mary Belle is survived by her daughter, Betty Lou Hunt; her sister, Kathryn L. Petersen; five grandchildren: Liz Bartlett, Kathy Masters, Chuck Hunt, Sue Hanson and Rosemary Mickey; 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Belle was preceded in death by her loving husband, Wayland Shenefelt; two sisters, Betty M. Harris and Helen J. Snyder; one brother, James Petersen and twin sisters that died shortly after birth.

We will all miss our mom, sister, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma.

Rest well.
