Health care board rehires Gay

by Bill Boender

The Sublette County Rural Health Care Board met Monday in Pinedale with all members present and began with discussion of the Marbleton Clinic staffing status.

Dr. Doug LaSuer is the only permanent practitioner hired to date and he is working to obtain certification in several areas and trying to get laboratory compliance certification in place. The search for doctors, nurses and a nurse practitioner continue with no applicants interviewed yet.

A marketing plan will be developed to promote use of the clinic. Patient visits have been as high as 30 per day but need to be increased.

Replacement and repair of equipment at both clinics was discussed and the board gave Director Randy Johnson authority to make decisions in that area without prior approval of the board.

Johnson reported that he, Andy McGinnis and Tony Chambers met with the Sublette County Commis-sioners earlier in the week and all agreed to proceed with the ambulance barn construction in Pinedale. Preliminary drawings will go to the architect for final plans. Funding for the basic building will come from the county while the health care district will furnish and equip the building as required.

The board approved a 4.3 percent cost-of-living increase for all employees and will provide dental and vision insurance.

Board Member Garry Eiden commented: "We throw our money away anyway. We might as well go for the whole package."

In the public comment session, several audience members spoke in favor of hiring Wil Gay as a paid employee. Gay had resigned his position a few months ago due to salary concerns. Following an executive session, the board announced his hiring.

At the request of Board Member Bill Barney, the board took official action to reject the proposals of the Wyoming Range Medical Group to provide service at Marbleton. Eiden voted against the motion, noting that they were still a long way from full staffing and coverage.
