Sheriff Bardin

by Cat Urbigkit

Sublette County Commissioners met in executive session Tuesday afternoon to interview the three finalists for the upcoming Sublette County Sheriff's vacancy. Upon returning to open session, the three commissioners cast secret ballots, with the unanimous vote being for Bardy Bardin as the next county sheriff. The commission appointed Bardin to the vacancy, to take effect at noon on June 30.

The Sublette County Republican Central Committee met Monday night to consider candidates for the sheriff's position. Jim Whinnery was top vote-getter with 15 votes, followed by Bardin with 11 and Alan Ziegler with eight votes. These are the three names that were forwarded for commission consideration. All three candidates were interviewed by the commission Tuesday afternoon. In addition to the three candidates who went forward for commission consideration, the political party considered others. Paul McCracken of Rock Springs received six votes, James Schmidt received one vote and Michael Picerno of Rawlins withdrew his name from consideration, according to precinct committeeman Bob Rule of Pinedale.
