Henry Mauss

Henry Dewey Mauss was born in the Missouri Ozarks near Climax Springs, Mo., on Sept. 27, 1898, of German parents Daniel Mauss and Frieda Nepeile Mauss. He worked with his father during his early years on the family Fiery Fork Farm.

At the age of 19 he married his school-days sweetheart Kathryn Ross. To this union were born four children: Vincent, Raymond, Robert and Patricia. During these years he helped to build the Missionary Presbyterian Church at Climax Springs.

In 1939 he married Clifton Merryman of Spichard, Mo. Because of his wife's health, they moved to Saratoga with their daughter, Sharon. While there, Henry was a custodian and bus driver for the Saratoga schools. During this period he helped Olson Construction Company build the school gym near the new community center building (as shown in the Casper Star Tribune May 27, 2005).

In 1960 he, his wife and Sharon moved to Pinedale. While working as custodian of the Pinedale schools, the FFA boys gave him an honorary membership. After retiring from the Pinedale schools, he became a custodian at Faler's General Store. He enjoyed meeting the public, especially the children. He retired May 15, 2002.

A viewing will be held Thursday, June 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hudson's Funeral Home in Pinedale. A graveside service will be held the following day, Friday, June 3, at 2 p.m. at the Pinedale Cemetery.

A memorial service will be held in Henry's honor towards the end of June; the service time and date will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Sublette Center in Pinedale.
