Another mancamp proposed, county jail revenues up

by Cat Urbigkit

Sublette County Undersheriff Henry Schmidt told Sublette County Commissioners Tuesday that he was moving forward in having a mancamp oversight committee begin to meet, with the group’s first meeting scheduled for Wednesday morning, Oct. 6.

Schmidt said the committee would involve the companies involved, mancamp owners and health care officials. In addition, Schmidt said, he received information about another mancamp being proposed one mile south of the Sand Draw Industrial Park mancamp. This new Prairie View mancamp, if approved, would provide housing for another 350 people, he said. This proposal hasn’t been presented to the county planning and zoning commission.

Sublette County’s new jail facility has been getting plenty of use, Schmidt said, with up to 42 inmates, including inmates from within the county (averaging from 12 to 20) and those sent here from Fremont and Sweetwater counties for a daily fee.

Schmidt said within the last 30 days, these outside inmates generated $28,000 in revenue for the county.
