Another wolf killed

by Cat Urbigkit

Another livestock-killing wolf was killed this weekend in the Upper Green River region, according to Mike Jimenez of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

The radio-collared two-year old female wolf was originally collared in 2002 as a member of Yellowstone National Park's Sheep Mountain wolf pack. She's been gone for about a year, Jimenez said, and her whereabouts were unknown until she was found amid cattle in the Upper Green. Three more dead calves were recently discovered, Jimenez said, so the wolf was taken out.

The wolf was shot while in the cattle. Cattlemen spent Sunday on horseback, pushing cattle back up the mountain because wolves had chased the animals down to lower country. Jimenez said that he would continue to fly the area listening for signals from other radio-collared wolves to learn if any other collared wolves are in the area.

There have been eight wolves killed in Sublette County so far this year in response to livestock depredations.
