Commission meets to discuss Erramouspe Road

by Bill Boender

The Sublette County Commissioners met last week with County Attorney Van Graham to discuss the status of legal action regarding the Erramouspe Road. Graham advised the commissioners that there was little possibility of success in appealing the decision in this case.

The ruling by the court means a number of county roads which are on or across federal lands may be in jeopardy of action by Bureau of Land Management or U.S. Forest Service to restrict use and require annual permits and fees for usage. As these roads were in existence prior to 1924 but not declared public roads by Sublette County prior to 1976, the court ruling vacates the public road status.

The commissioners asked Graham to look into and advise them regarding possible action in state district court, either on the Erramouspe Road or another road in the same situation, so that this potentially serious problem can be resolved.
