Chuckwagon Days may be at end of trail

The 69th annual Chuckwagon Days and Rodeo is slated for a two-day celebration July 4 and 5, but if community support isn't found by then, this will be the last time the wagons roll.

Chuckwagon Days President Festus Krause said volunteers and donations are desperately needed. The core of five dedicated volunteers simply don't have enough time to keep this tradition going, Krause said, without more help.

This great event begins in the Marbleton area on Friday, July 4, at 10 a.m. when the parade rolls down the street, followed by the barbecue at 11 a.m. and the rodeo at 2 p.m. There will be a street dance at 8 p.m., followed by the fireworks at dark:30.

The next day, Saturday, July 5, will be just as much fun, with a Dutch Oven Cook-off at 1 p.m. with local duo Bluegrass Country Review providing the listening entertainment at the same time. The rodeo will be held at 6 p.m. and a free concert will be held at the fairgrounds at 8 p.m., with the local band The Legend playing.

Another added bonus this year will be rooster roping, so be sure to plan on being in the Marbleton area for a fabulously fun event!

"If we don't get local support and help, this will be the last and final one," Krause said. Anyone willing to volunteer time or money can call Krause at home in the evenings at 307-276-5669. The public should also be aware that the barbecue and rodeo events are held by separate organizations, and donations for the rodeo events are badly needed.
