Alan "Flynn" Hoefer

Alan "Flynn" Hoefer of Big Piney passed away quietly at his home on April 25, 2003.

Born Sept. 24, 1916, in Aztec, N.M., he was the son of George and Ora (Dudley) Hoefer. He was educated in Burlington, Okla., and lived there for 37 years.

After serving his country for 12 years in the U.S. Navy, he met and fell in love with Loretta "Larry" Gregson. They were married in Santa Fe, N.M., in 1944.

Flynn, as he was known to his friends, worked for El Paso Natural Gas from 1953 until 1983 when he retired. He became a resident of Big Piney in 1989.

Flynn is survived by his sons, Bob (Sue) Hoefer of Marbleton, Larry Hoefer of Leominster, Mass., Rusty (Cynthia) Hoefer of Corralles, New Mexico, "Dusty" Greg (Tracy) of Farmington, N.M., his daughter Barbary Kabasan of Farmington; as well as 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his faithful dog, O.J., who was with Flynn until the end.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Larry, and one sister, Georgia Knowlton.

At Flynn's request, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be conducted by his family.
