Marjorie Brawley

Funeral services for LaBarge resident Marjorie Brawley, 87, were held Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003 at 3 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in LaBarge. Interment followed in the Viola-LaBarge Cemetery.

Marjorie died the afternoon of Dec. 16 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.

Marjorie McGinnis Brawley was born Aug. 16, 1916, to William J. and Mamie (Hansen) McGinnis at their home ranch on Dry Piney Creek near Big Piney.

Marjorie attended school on Dry Piney Creek. After graduating high school, she attended college for two years and received a teaching certificate and taught for a few years.

On Nov. 16, 1946, she married Clarence Brawley. They spent many years together ranching on the Lower Spur Ranch just south of LaBarge. Marjorie and Clarence later expanded their operation, buying the Newt Sims Ranch adjacent to the existing ranch and also a horse ranch on Dry Piney Creek.

In 1973, they sold the ranch to Marjorie's brother, Bill McGinnis. Marjorie and Clarence continued to live on the ranch until Clarence's death Jan. 14, 1998. Marjorie spent the rest of her life in Yose Canyon overlooking the Green River Valley and the ranches where she had spent most of her life.

Marjorie is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, her parents and three brothers.

Memorial donations may be made to either the LaBarge Sunshine Senior Center or the Marbleton-Big Piney Southwest Sublette County Pioneers Senior Center.
