Filing period announced

Secretary of State Jospeh B. Meyer reminds potential candidates that the filing period for state, county and municipal offices nominated at the primary election is Thursday, May 16, through Friday, May 31. By statute, candidates must have their original application and filing fee filed in the Secretary of State’s, county clerk’s or municipal clerk’s office, depending of the office sought, by the close of the business day May 31, to appear on the primary election ballot.

Meyer emphasized that by statute, signed original applications must be on file and that fax or other electronic filings are not allowed. He also reminds candidates that school board and community college trustee elections are non-partisan and are not contested at the primary election. The filing period for those boards begins Wednesday, Aug. 7, and ends Monday, Aug. 26.
