Statewide briefs

Instream flow hearing

The State Engineer's office will conduct a public hearing next Thursday, Dec. 19, at 9 a.m. in the Sublette County Library in Pinedale on the Wyoming Game and Fish Department's request for a 40 cubic feet per second instream flow for an 8-mile segment of Pine Creek.

PDR survey inside

The Sublette County Purchase of Development Rights Working Group is asking the public to fill out a survey regarding PDRs and whether the Sublette County government should develop a PDR program using tax revenues. The survey is found on page 12 of this week's Examiner and needs to be returned to the Sublette County Clerk's office by Dec. 20.

Congressional reps

Field representatives for Senators Craig Thomas and Mike Enzi and Congresswoman Barbara Cubin will be in Big Piney on Wednesday, Dec. 18 to visit with the public. Pati Smith, Lyn Shanaghy and Bonnie Cannon will be at the Big Piney Town Hall from 9 to 10 a.m. Area residents with concerns about the federal government are invited to attend.

New commissioners

When governor-elect Dave Freudenthal takes office early next year, he'll have the monumental task of appointing his cabinet and bringing a new administration into being. He'll also be able to have a big influence on the Wyoming Game and Fish Department by choosing who will serve as its new director and appointing two new commissioners to begin service in March.

Commissioners Gary Lundvall and Mick Powers will be leaving the commission when their terms expire in March.

Roberts on Wildlife Committee

Senator Delaine Roberts will be serving as the Chairman of the Travel, Recreation and Wildlife Committee in the 2003 Wyoming Legislature. Roberts, of Etna, can be reached at 307-883-2135.

LCP deadline Friday

The Sweetwater/Sublette County Farm Services Agency is accepting applications for the Livestock Compensation Program (LCP). Authorization for this program expires Dec. 13, 2002.

The LCP assists eligible producers by making benefits available to producers of cattle, sheep, beefalo and goats. Producers may apply for benefits based on the number of livestock owned for 90 days with June 1, 2002 included in the ownership period. Payment rates are based on the type of animal unit. Yearlings are included in this program.

You must make an application for LCP assistance on or before Dec. 13. Please contact the Sweetwater/Sublette County FSA Office 307-273-5533 for additional details of the program and make an application.
