Crash kills two

by Cat Urbigkit

The Wyoming Highway Patrol confirmed Friday that a one-vehicle rollover Thursday evening south of Pinedale resulted in the death of two young people from Utah.

Lieutenant David Schofield said the crash occurred about 10 minutes prior to 7 p.m. near milepost 93 on Highway 191, which is near the Ralph Wenz Field airport.

Driver Travis Phillips, 25, and passenger Kathlynn Kurth,18, both of Roosevelt, were traveling northbound in a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee at approximately the speed limit, Schofield said, when Phillips swerved to miss a porcupine.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, going off the north side of the highway, Schofield said. The vehicle rolled several times and came to rest on its wheels. Both occupants were ejected and killed instantly, Schofield reported.
