Sex offenders in Sublette County

According to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, Sublette County has five registered aggravated sex offenders, one of which has been determined by a district court judge as posing a high risk of re-offending.

In addition, the county has one non-aggravated sex offender who has been determined to pose a low risk of re-offending.

Those numbers could change in the near future though. Deputy County Attorney Tory Raccines said in an interview Tuesday: "There are two files that we have been working on to put forth a determination hearing," to determine what degree of risk the sex offenders pose.

Pursuant to state law, persons convicted of certain offenses are required to register as sex offenders. If an individual is convicted of an "aggravated sex offense," a hearing must be held to determine his risk of re-offense to the community. Once the hearing is completed, the district court will classify the individual as posing a high, moderate or low risk of re-offending.

If the offender is determined to be a low risk, notification is provided only to persons authorized to receive criminal history record information, such as law enforcement, prosecutors and courts.

For moderate risk offenders, notification is given only to residential neighbors within at least 750 feet of the offender's residence; organizations in the community, including schools, religious and youth organizations; and law enforcement, prosecutors and courts.

In the case of high-risk offenders, notification is provided to the public through a public registry and through any additional means specified in the court's order, as well as those persons and entities requiring notification under other risk categories. DCI also posts the information about high-risk offenders on its website. The information available to the public includes: the offender's name, including any aliases; physical address; date and place of birth; date and place of conviction; crime for which convicted; photograph; and physical characteristics including race, sex, height, weight, eye and hair color.

In terms of Sublette County's high risk sex offender, his name is Jeramie James Edwin McGuire and he lives on Rakestraw Avenue in Marbleton, according to the DCI website. According to that source, McGuire is 24 years old, and was convicted of third-degree rape in Baker City, Ore., on July 7, 1997. McGuire is six feet, three inches tall, weighs 165 pounds, and has brown hair and eyes. He was determined to be a high risk offender in September 2000.
