All Girl Rodeo set for Sept. 15

The Wyo Braska All Girl Rodeo Association has scheduled its year-end finals for the Sublette County Ag Center at the fairgrounds outside of Big Piney.

More than 200 entries are expected for the rodeo, set for Sept. 15. The rodeo will draw contestants from at least two states, as well as provide an opportunity for local cowgirls to demonstrate their skills in a highly competitive forum.

This exciting event has never before been hosted in western Wyoming and event organizers Lora Nicols of Boulder and Margaret Jones of Farson are hoping the community will support the event by agreeing to sponsor, compete or attend the rodeo.

The Wyo Brasksa All Girl Rodeo Association is an all women's rodeo association with rodeos and jackpots across the states of Wyoming and Nebraska. It's a branch of the Women's Professional Rodeo Association and the Professional Women's Rodeo Association.

The standard roping events are tiedown calf roping, breakaway calf roping, team roping, steer stopping and steer breakaway. The WPRA Divisional Tour barrel race and the open 4D barrel race round out the events at the association's jackpots and rodeos.

The association uses the money generated from sponsorships to put on the rodeo and to purchases awards. There are various levels of sponsorship available, from contributions under $100, to the $750 saddle sponsor and the association ladies appreciate every level of support. Sponsors received varied perks, from a business card sized ad in the program to a full-page ad, dependent upon the contribution level, and will be recognized by the announcer at the rodeo. Anyone interested in being a sponsor for the rodeo is encouraged to contact Lora Nicols at 307-537-5647 or Margaret Jones at 307-273-5700.

The events are open to any ladies who would like to compete, but the year-end awards are for association members only. Entries can be made by calling 307-273-5700 the Monday prior to the event, from 5 to 10 p.m. Contestants should also call for information on host hotels, since overnight accommodations are rather limited.
