Temporary Town

by Rhonda Swain

The Mule Fire's Incident Command Post, which sits on a hill on the Ryegrass/Cottonwood Road, is currently home to hundreds of small tents such as these. After last week's rain, a large batch of new tents was brought in to replace wet ones the crews were using. The 20-person fire-fighting crews usually group their tents, and some have flags and/or pieces of cardboard stating where they are from. According to an ICP information officer, rehabilitation of the area is one of the main concerns of the command unit. For more on the Mule Fire, see this week's Examiner.
